How to Save Designs as Print Ready Files using Canva?
As a DIY’er, we know that you want to be in control of your artwork, so we turn to our user-friendly design apps like Canva to create them.
Here's a guideline you can easily follow which we created just for you.
1. Set Design Dimensions based on your requirements
- Make sure that your artwork size matches the size you require them to be printed (ex. Standard Business Card: 90x55mm).
- Be sure to use Millimeters (mm) as the unit of measurement.
2. Set Visual Guides
- Go to 'File' then 'Settings' on the top left corner of the Canva.
- Tick 'Add guides' - Select Custom, 1 Column, 1 Row, Internal Margins = 5mm* (See image below)
- Tick 'Show print bleed' - this is a design allowance beyond the trim area to avoid white edges when the print is cut.
- Tick 'Show Danger Zone Detection' - this will tell you if text is too close to the edge
- Optional - Tick 'Show Template Assistant' - this handy tool lets you know when placement is not quite right, as well as other hints and tips
*Recommended internal margin: 5mm. Minimum internal margin: general 3mm, stickers 2mm, large format 5mm
Wrong Output
Not Print Ready, Extend background so no white space.
Correct Output
Print Ready, fully no white space on the bleed area.
3. Download your design
- On the top right hand corner of Canva, click on 'Share'.
- A drop-down box will appear, select the 'Download' option.
4. Set in the correct format
- Change the File type to 'PDF Print'.
- Tick the box for 'Crop marks and bleed'.
- Select the pages you want to save.
- Ensure your Color Profile is in 'CMYK (best for professional printing)'.
