Vinyl stickers are not all the same.

Some are made for short-term promotions. Some are better for curved surfaces. Some are designed to block out old graphics. Some are made for concrete, brick, tiles or hard-to-stick-to surfaces. Choosing the right vinyl affects how the sticker looks, how well it applies, how long it lasts, and whether it is suitable for the surface you are using.

At Same Day Printing, we stock a range of vinyl materials so your stickers can be matched to the job — not just printed on the closest roll available.

Do Vinyl Stickers Need Lamination?

Not usually.

Lamination is useful when the sticker needs extra protection, a specific finish, or improved durability.

Consider lamination for:

  • Outdoor use
  • Vehicle decals
  • Floor graphics
  • High-touch surfaces
  • Scratch-prone environments
  • Items that need cleaning with chemicals
  • Where contents have essential oils or contents that can interfere with ink

You may not need lamination for:

  • Short-term indoor promotions
  • Basic product labels
  • Temporary event decals
  • Low-contact stickers
  • Stickers used on packaging that will not be handled heavily

Common Vinyl Sticker Mistakes

  • Choosing the cheapest vinyl for the wrong surface
A cheaper vinyl can work well on the right surface. It can fail quickly on the wrong one.
  • Using clear vinyl when you need opacity
Clear vinyl looks great on glass, but colours can become translucent. Add white ink if the design needs to stand out.
  • Using standard adhesive on difficult plastics
Some plastics are low-energy surfaces, meaning adhesive does not grip well. High tack vinyl is often a better choice.
  • Applying vinyl to dusty, oily or textured surfaces
Even strong adhesive needs a suitable surface. Dirt, oil, dust, loose paint or moisture can stop vinyl from bonding correctly.
  • Skipping lamination for high-wear use
Floor stickers, vehicle decals and high-touch signage usually need added protection.
